Yeovil Metal Detecting Club

Uncovering the history of the South West since 1978

WHO WE ARE

Formed in 1978, Yeovil Metal Detecting Club is one of the South West’s longest-running metal detecting clubs. We are an enthusiastic group of detectorists who share a passion for uncovering the history of Somerset, Dorset and the surrounding region.

Our members range from complete beginners finding their first hammered coin to experienced detectorists with decades of fieldwork behind them. What brings us together is a shared love of the hobby, a respect for the land, and a commitment to responsible detecting.

OUR MEETINGS

We meet on the first Monday of every month at:

MEETING VENUE
Quicksilver MailHenfordYeovilBA20 2RGMeetings start at 8pm.

At our monthly meetings, members bring along their recent finds, share experiences from the field, and catch up with friends. It is a relaxed and friendly evening and a great way to learn from more experienced detectorists.

If you would like to come along and see what it is all about before committing to membership, just drop us an email and we will extend a personal invitation.

CLUB DIGS

One of the highlights of club membership is access to our organised club digs. We work closely with local farmers and landowners across Somerset and Dorset to arrange detecting sessions on new and productive sites.

Club digs give members the opportunity to search land that might otherwise be inaccessible, in the company of fellow members and with all the permissions properly in place. They are also a chance to give something back, we regularly raise funds for causes supported by our host landowners.

LOST ITEM RECOVERY

The club offers a free lost item recovery service to the local community. If you have lost a metallic item such as a gold ring, a piece of jewellery, a sentimental keepsake, or even an industrial part, our members will do their best to help locate it.

This is entirely free of charge. Get in touch via our contact page and we will arrange to help.

RESPONSIBLE DETECTING

Yeovil Metal Detecting Club takes responsible detecting seriously. All members are expected to follow the Code of Practice for Responsible Metal Detecting, to report significant finds through the Portable Antiquities Scheme, and to comply fully with the Treasure Act 1996.

We believe that good relationships with landowners, archaeologists and the wider community are essential to the future of the hobby. Our reputation matters to us.

OUR AREA

While we are based in Yeovil, our members detect across a wide area including Somerset, Dorset, and neighbouring counties. The South West is extraordinarily rich in history, from prehistoric artefacts and Roman coins to medieval finds and more recent discoveries, and every club dig brings the possibility of something remarkable.

Yeovil Metal Detecting Club regularly attends local rallies, charity events and community shows throughout the South West.
